Tax Groups, Rates and Rules

Tax Rates

Different tax rates might apply depending on the country or zone in which you are trading. You can maintain the different rates and rules for calculating tax on orders.

Creating a Tax Rate

  1. Go to the settings page by selecting Settings from the top right menu.
  2. Select Advanced Settings from the left hand menu.
  3. Click the Manage Tax Groups, Rates & Rules link on the advanced settings page.
  4. Click the green New button on the tax rates page.
  5. Enter the tax rate NameCode and the Tax Rate % (i.e. "10" for 10%).
  6. Click Save.

 

Tax Rules

For each tax rate, you can set up rules that control how tax is applied on orders.

Creating a Tax Rule

  1. Go to the settings page by selecting Settings from the top right menu.
  2. Select Advanced Settings from the left hand menu.
  3. Click the Manage Tax Groups, Rates & Rules link on the advanced settings page.
  4. Click the Tax Rules button at the top of the tax rates page.
  5. Click the green New button on the tax rules page.
  6. Select the relevant Tax Rate from the drop-down box.
  7. Decide a rule for this tax rate. Select the relevant Zone, Country or Tax Group in the Match On Options. A common example is to Match on Ship To Country and Match on Item Tax Group.
  8. Optionally change the priority to order your tax rates, and check the box for required VAT registration numbers.
  9. Click Save.

Creating a Tax Group

  1. Go to the settings page by selecting Settings from the top right menu.
  2. Select Advanced Settings from the left hand menu.
  3. Click the Manage Tax Groups, Rates & Rules link on the advanced settings page.
  4. Click the Tax Groups button at the top of the tax rates page.
  5. Click the green New button on the tax groups page.
  6. Enter the Code and Description in the fields.
  7. Click Save.

Now the Tax Group has been created, Items can be assigned to it on the Edit Item page. Examples of Tax Groups include Tax Exempt, Standard and Zero Rated.
